toggle particles using events in a canvas

Hello, I'm not sure if this is a bug. I am trying to toggle particles on and off. If i don't use the stop event then the particles play, as soon as i add the stop event, nothing happens. the thing is if add other bools like clear, the smoke will clear when the button is selected.

Basically, the smoke will play if i have one event, if i add particleSystem.stop, nothing happens when i click the toggle.

Any advice would be great.
