Answers abandoned?

just asking. the layout system is still broken, all questions just get passed on from the queue, I never see unity staff members comment anything... are you guys working on an alternative or has answers just gotten irrelevant?

Yes, sort of. UA had been run like StackExchange for a few years, but gradually that became impossible. About 5 years ago we were getting swamped with 50+ beginner Q's a day and needed to reject 48 with a polite explanation, which they would argue with us about. Eventually the moderators all quit. For months the mod queue just filled up then got mass-accepted maybe once a week. It was removed on purpose. There was one Unity staff person, which went down to 0 about 2 years ago.

Even if Unity wanted to try to get UA back like StackExchange, which would be very iffy with no moderator community, I doubt they want to. They seem to be going more with paid support. I see it like pottery classes - maybe you spend $50 total, have fun, then move on. You never expected to make money from pottery, and that's fine. Unity can honestly make money the same way.

Then part of it was probably Unity having more time to write docs and improve. In the early days UA was very much filling in gaps in the manual and the API.

Would it be possible to at least fix the layouting system, or revert it back to before the last update, which made things horrible? Pretty please :)

Look over in $$anonymous$$eta, at the almost year old https://answers.unity.com/questions/1434293/cannot-add-blank-line-to-my-unity-answers-question.html No Unity rep has replied, since there is no Unity rep here. Also not sure if it's mentioned there, but UA is run by a 3rd party. Too much effort to request changes and follow through.

And the thing is, it wouldn't fix the actual problem with UA. It's like re-painting a broken hockey stick, currently being used as a dog toy.

"In the early days UA was very much filling in gaps in the manual and the API." I'm surprised there is no wiki for the Unity docs, that users can edit and add to. I know we have http://wiki.unity3d.com, but I was thinking something more along the lines of https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/, but user-written. I've little experience with web-site program$$anonymous$$g, so If anyone is interested in such a project please contact me! Glurth at gmail dot com Also, if anyone knows that Unity would be AGAINST such a site, better to know that before spending any time on it.

Great example. If a Unity person were to look for majority requested fixes, they'll see things going in every direction. You comment is essentially "don't bother fixing the formatting - help us work on the next thing ins$$anonymous$$d."

Wiki-wise, there are hundreds(?) of Unity blogs and so on. I don't think even 2 of them have any desire to join forces, much less form a group.

same thing as with families. as soon as the grand parents perish, it's more effort to keep the family together as there no one single reference for all.
it's a shame Unity is not putting effort into this anymore, but I guess the majority of unity professionals either have paid support, already know their stuff, or work in companies that do know. the others on the other hand, the current generation of newbies, either forgot how to use search engines, put a little effort into trying to solve their problems themselves, are just plain lazy or do not know how to start simple and scale up, always staying beyond their capabilities.
some auto filter would be really nice. something like suggestions showing up first and actively forcing the inquire into an additional step before dumping his brain here.
and maybe some logic that filters questions with code longer than 30 lines would be nice ;)
